Abstract: This research paper makes an attempt to go into the heart of Kurtz, the lead character in Joseph Conrad’s novella Heart of Darkness and to see how the heart of this European settler and pioneer goes into Congo in order to search for ivory and how he traumatises the native population into just pawns in his diverse manoeuvres. As a result of his overweening ambition, Kurtz has to pay a very heavy fine just as his predecessor in Europe Dr. Faustus pays with his soul. They are cousins of the same blood and their hearts are overflowing with darkness.
